North Texas Academy is a
private, accredited distance learning school for students in grades
9-12. This school offers home school programs for students who want to
study in their own home, including teenagers as well as adults. North
Texas Academy has students throughout the U.S.A. as well as in foreign
countries. We have three different types of programs to select from. They
are:
-
TRADITIONAL EXTENSION PROGRAM - Most popular
- Recommended for teenagers that
will need some assistance from the teacher and a more disciplined
program. Students on this program will mail their school work to a
teacher every two weeks. This is our most popular program and
recommended for college bound students or for teenagers that will need
more structure from a school and teacher. School work is mailed in every
two weeks on this program. We use state adopted curriculum.
PARENT
IS THE TEACHER PROGRAM - Available to high school students
wanting to attend this school, but they have a parent that wishes to be
the teacher. The parent receives the curriculum from our school, along
with the check-sheets (assignments), but they do all of the actual
teaching and grading of the lessons. This is our least expensive
program. This is only recommended for parents that can play an active
role in teaching and grading their child's work.
-
SHORTENED HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM - This is recommended for older teenagers (17 and above) or for adults
needing a high school diploma.

In this school, we expect our students
to turn in "A" quality work. We do not accept work that has been thrown
together the night before and mailed in without care. We expect students
to earn 90% and above on their courses. If a student does not understand
something and needs help, we will help them. If a student turns in work
that is not "A" quality, but it appears the student did try his/her
best, the teacher will show the student where the errors are and ask for
the student to do it over, until it is 90% or above. A student may have
to work on a lesson two or three times in order to earn an "A", and be
willing to do whatever it takes for this grade.
If a student has been diagnosed "special
education" or has some disability where the curriculum needs to be
modified, this can be done. A parent needs to let us know this, and the
courses can be modified for those students.
